Relieving Log

Keeping track of the pup's relieving habits the first week (and on if needed) with you can be very useful. Tracking the pup's relieving will help you recognize a pattern and start offering relieving opportunities and building a routine from there.

Average of times the pup relieved this week (total relieving/7)__________________________

Use this number to determine how many relieving opportunities the pup needs a day for success.

Number of accidents the pup had this week_________________________________

Use these accidents to see if there was a pattern. Was the pup having accidents a certain time of day? If there is a pattern give the pup a relieving opportunity before that time to prevent the accidents.

The pup should be given 10+ opportunities to relieve a day until they are about 4 months old.

Around 4 months you can start offering 6-10 opportunities. Eliminate the opportunities that the pup uses most infrequently. Be observant of any accidents during this transition and adjust accordingly. If you have any questions about creating a relieving routine please speak to your advisor or area coordinator.

After 5 months the pup should have a consistent routine and accidents should be few and far between.
