Sacramento service dog a finalist for Hero award

For the first time, a Sacramento dog has made it into the finals of the American Humane Association's Hero Dog competition. More than 170 dogs from across the country entered.

You can find Hook, a part Chihuahua-Jack Russell Terrier mix at Joyce Herman's office for Marriage and Family Therapy in Sacramento.

The sign outside reads: Joyce Herman MFT and Hook Herman ThD. The ThD stands for "The Hearing Dog."

"He's a big part of this office. We call him the office manager," Herman said.

The office manager and part-time therapist got his start as Herman's service dog because she has a hearing impairment.
